FDCPA collection-letter review

Review validation notices, amount clarity, communication issues, false threats, time-barred debt, and dispute windows.

What this helps with

Use this when a collector sends a letter, calls, texts, emails, threatens suit, offers settlement, or reports a debt the user disputes.

What to look for

  • Collector name, creditor name, date received, amount, account identifier, and validation notice
  • Any 30-day dispute window language and whether other language overshadows it
  • Threats of lawsuit, credit reporting, fees, settlement deadlines, attorney involvement, or time-barred debt wording
  • Call logs, texts, emails, voicemails, cease/dispute letters, and post-dispute communications

Suggested next steps

  1. Upload the letter and preserve the envelope if available.
  2. Log calls and messages in the contact history.
  3. Build a validation or dispute draft only after reviewing timing and facts.
